Introduction to the Skill System

The skill system is the heart of Infinite Horizons. Virtually everything your character attempts to do will be based on one skill or another. A thorough understanding of how skills work in general, and specifically the skills which apply to your character, is a necessity for the game.

Descriptions of basic skills may be found in the Skill Descriptions chapter of this rulebook, and more advanced skills are present in most other supplements.

This chapter will cover the following topics:

  • How to select initial skills for a new character
  • How to get your character's native language and other free skills
  • How to calculate your character's skill level in these skills
  • How your character's skills may be improved (both through training and normal use)
  • How to use skills your character does not know
  • How to acquire additional skills for an existing character
This chapter does not tell you how to use skills. For that, see the section on Skill Checks in the Introduction.
